Scaling & Root Planing
Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical option to treat periodontal disease. The goal of treatment is to remove the bacteria, calculus built-up, plaque that’s responsible for periodontal disease. The scaling portion will involve a thorough cleaning below the gum line, while the planing portion consists of the gentle sanding of rough areas on your tooth surfaces and roots, which can be magnets for bacterial accumulation. Our goal is to prevent the periodontal disease from progressing and helping our patients maintain their bone and gum health.
Chao Pinhole ® Technique
Gum recession is a serious concern for the longevity of your teeth. Dr. Kari Bolen is one of only two dentists in all of South Dakota who is certified in The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique, which is a scalpel and suture-free procedure that can correct this recession with exceptional, instant results. During your treatment, Dr. Bolen will make a small hole in the gum tissue and use advanced instruments to loosen and guide your gum tissue over receded areas. The area is filled with collagen to hold your gum tissues in place while they grow back over the recession. This technique thickens the amount of gum tissue to stabilize the teeth and many patients are surprised by the noticeable cosmetic improvement as well.
Soft Tissue Laser Therapy
Soft tissue laser therapy is a safe and comfortable non-surgical method for treating periodontal disease. Unlike traditional scalpel use, our team can use this state-of-the-art laser to precisely remove infected tissues and kill harmful bacteria while also promoting healing. Bleeding, swelling, and other post-operative symptoms are minimized, and patients are able to recover in a much speedier fashion.
